Explorer Post #900

Fourth Annual Explorer Academy

Explorer Post 900 held their 4th Annual Explorer Academy from June 15th through 19th.  Thirty three young men and women between the ages of 14 through 17 participated in five full days of training and exposure to the vast variety of opportunity found in the field of law enforcement.  They each received instruction on subjects such as CPR and first aid, varying aspects of criminal law, firearms familiarization and safety, traffic enforcement, arson and auto theft investigation, and even some information on the law enforcement officer’s use of deadly force.  Academy cadets toured the Pinellas County Jail, the Crime Scene Section, the Sheriff’s Administration Building, the Vehicle Maintenance Section and the Communications Maintenance Facility learning that effective law enforcement and real public safety requires the hard work and cooperation of many, many people.

Twenty one graduates were successful in meeting the expectations of members of Post 900 and accepted the invitation to join.  Starting in September Explorer Post 900 will have a total of 41 members.

A special thanks to the Detention and Corrections Bureau, the Forensics Section, the Training Section and the Investigations Divisions for their help and support of this annual event.
