On January 16, 2009 thirteen members of Explorer Post 900 participated in a basic defensive tactics training day at the Pinellas County Jail. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Training Section provided d/t instructors to teach officer safety and escort techniques to the Explorers in an effort to improve their knowledge and understanding while interacting with the general public as well as any potential criminal subject. The training day began with thorough physical conditioning and included a variety of techniques ranging from the basic interview stance to avoidance tactics.
Members will certainly be able to put these skills to work as they participate in the Post Ride-Along Program. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office provides Post members the opportunity to work alongside Detention Deputies in the Pinellas County Jail, Bailiffs at the Criminal Court Complex and Patrol Deputies. |
