Florida Association of Police Explorers held its quarterly Delegates Meeting in Pinellas Park during the January 13-14, 2007 weekend. The delegates meetings involve pistol competitions as well as training and entertainment opportunities. Ten members of Post 900 competed in a pistol match against Explorer Posts from around the state. Again, our Explorers placed in several classes. Explorer Sgt. Thomas Garmon placed first in the Sharpshooter Division. Explorer Cody Malander placed second in the Tyro Division. Explorer Sgt. Luke Dougherty placed third in the Marksman Division. The team, including the above mentioned and Explorer Michael Metzger, placed fourth in the overall team competition. We are very proud of the accomplishments of all our members. Post 900 members are a hardworking, committed group of young people who have represented the Pinellas County Sheriff’s office well.
During the delegates meeting the explorers had the opportunity to see the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Flight and Marine units as well as the Forensics Section. Pinellas Park Police Department also showcased their Volunteer Mounted Patrol Unit. The opportunity to see agencies such as the Sheriff's Office and Pinellas Park Police Department showcase their operations is a tremendous benefit to the Explorers.
The Explorers also had the opportunity to participate in numerous training opportunities. Training opportunities included hostage negotiations, responding to 911 disconnects, a bus victim rescue, and a firearms training simulator. |
